Hi! You shouldn’t stress yourself too much on the weight plateau you’re experiencing. There are many cases where weight plateau happens while you’re on the fast metabolism diet. That’s why the program is set to a 28-day cycle because it takes that long to fully heal your metabolism. You can read these tips to help you overcome the weight plateau you’ve experienced.

Also, if you’re diabetic, you might want to read this one. Hope this helps 🙂

Hello! Tomorrow I start Phase 2. I’m a vegetarian – can I drink a vegan pea protein shake as one of my snacks? 21g of protein. It’s organic as well. It’s made up of primarily pea protein but also brown rice protein, chia seed protein, and hemp protein.

The brand is Orgain Protein Powder. Thank you!!

Hi! Yes, you can use pea protein shakes in this diet. In fact, Haylie also has her own version of shakes that works on the diet 🙂

I have been on the FMD for a week. I am concerned about the change and color of my stool and as much as I hate to post this, I am worried. My stool is now very very dark and sticky, or pasty, which is unusual for me. I am wondering if the increase in protein (eggs, chicken and fish – I don’t eat other meat), and increase in dark green leafy vegetables (chard, spinach) is the reason for this dramatic change. Has anyone else noticed this, and is there a reason not to worry? Thank you for your advice.

Hi, Jayro! You can read Haylie’s article about that here. We also recommend you take some lab test (as recommended in the book) and have the book consulted to your physician on your next appointment. Your physician might change some rules in the book to address your specific condition. Hope this helps! 🙂

Hi! Unfortunately, Ahi Tuna is high in mercury levels, so it’s not allowed in the fast metabolism diet. However, you can consume canned tuna, but since they also have moderate mercury levels, you may want to limit your consumption on them. You can also try other healthier alternatives like sardines, halibut, oysters, shrimps, etc. Hope this helps 🙂

Thank you! I hope you don’t mind another question. During Phase 1, I have taken Bob’s Red Mill Rolled Oats, pureed mango (I did account for this within my one cup of fruit for breakfast) and toasted them in the oven until crispy. I was using one cup, as per my grain amount, but I think that could be too much. I have never boiled the oats, and my friend pointed out how much they expand, like rice or quinoa. Should I use a smaller amount since there really is no expansion, and if so, could you recommend an amount? Thank you again! Tara

Hi, Tara! Our standard portion for oats is 1 1/2 cup for uncooked and 1 cup for cooked grains. But if you feel like 1 cup of oats is too much for you, we recommend you inspect this checklist first before making adjustments on your food portion. Hope this helps 🙂

What does fat/protein mean? The phase 3 snack is guacamole with cucumber. Where is the protein? Does it mean to either have a fat or a protein for a snack?

Hi, Sarah! It means you need to eat fat AND protein in Phase 3. So it means during Phase 3 snack, you need to eat Veggie, Fat, AND protein. Hope this helps! 🙂

    Good Morning,
I am on day 2, week 2 and have been totally on point with diet. Working out like a mad woman and am really only down 1 pound. I lost 3 within the first three days and now just one. The scale victory is so motivating!
Working on more water and more leafy greens.

    Thoughts?

I’m finding a lot of the recipes to be really off. I have read through all the other comments and info before typing this to you. Last night I made Italian Chicken & Wild Rice and after 6 hours in the slow-cooker, the rice was still raw. Chicken & Broccoli rice bowl was a disaster. Another recipe called for 1/2 cup brown rice and 5 cups chicken broth/water. I’m adjusting the recipes so that they are to my liking (in terms of cooking times and methods). ANYWAY…. my biggest issue is that I cannot eat the full portion. Of anything. My app says for a snack I should eat 3 Kiwi. My goodness! That is just too much. After 1, I am so full, the thought of eating a second is unbearable. 9 oz of fish for dinner? I can barely eat 4. A cup or more of steel cut oats and 1.5 cups of blueberries? There is no way I can eat that much at a sitting. I am worried this diet won’t work for me because of the massive portions. I am on week 2 now. Can you advise?

I started 3 weeks ago….Week 1 lost 3 lbs, Week 2 gained 3 lbs and Week 3 gained 2 more lbs and as of this morning up 2 more lbs…Discouraged and not feeling well. I already did not eat sugar and have been eating these foods for more than 20 years. Actually my normal food program do too allergies and sensitivities has always been more limited than these foods. When I eat some of the veggies and fruits they do cause discomfort. After three weeks I am more bloated and heavier than 3 weeks ago. Not sure this is a good fit for me….HELP?

      Hi, Greeny!

      Hi!

That’s why the program is set to a 28-day cycle because it takes that long to fully heal your metabolism. You can read this article for tips on beating weight plateau.

Also, please keep in mind that losing weight is not only determined by your weight in scale. It cannot define how much fats you lose and how much muscle you gained. There are far better ways to determine whether you lose weight or not. You can read it here.

If you have health issues such as inflammation, digestive, issues and hormonal imbalance that hinders your weight loss, you can try The Burn instead. You can also check FMF-RX, Haylie’s new diet program. You can check both to know which one would work for you. Hang in there! You can do it! 🙂

Are there any options for Sushi during any phase? I have the option for brown rice rolls with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, or cooked crab and shrimp. They even have a cooked chicken option. No avocado, purely rice and fish (maybe some cucumber too). Also, is just sashimi okay to eat in any phase? Thanks!

Hi, Sarah! Sushi is a really great seafood option, especially in Phase 3. Just skip the rice or you can eat an alternative grain that is allowed in Phase 3. Also, you can really go crazy with sashimi—calamari, crab, lobster, salmon, shrimp, and more. A seaweed salad also gives your thyroid an extra boost. You can have 3-4 rolls of it. Hope this helps! 🙂

Not sure what problems you are having but try making a vegetable soup to help you through the hunger if that is the issue. Also try eating larger servings of vegetables. If you usually eat a cup of broccoli for a meal, eat 1 cup of broccoli, 1 cup of cabbage and keep adding veggies until you know what you need for a meal.

A lot of us struggle through phase II but we just hold on as best we can until Friday morning.

Mostly I am just so sick of meat during this phase. We are so limited on choices other than meat and veggies. I need snack ideas, the meals are ok, it’s really the snacks just protein. I need ideas for protein snacks.

I roll up roast beef with a little horseradish, and you can add thinly sliced veggies to the roll up as well for a nice crunch. Maybe cucumbers thinly sliced or red bell peppers!

Hi, I could really use some help. I was very careful to stay on track but only lost 5 pounds the entire month! I had my gallbladder removed a few years ago and was told that maybe that has something to do with it. I have felt great on the diet and it hasn’t been too hard. I don’t eat meat but do eat fish and eggs. Anyway, I could use some counsel I would like to stay on the diet rather than switching as I believe the science is solid and a friend of mine lost a lot of weight. Any suggestions?

Hi everyone. I am on week 4 of FMD and yesterday I went out and drank some smoothie, which gave me a stomachache. This morning, after some googling, I discovered that it had sugar and orange juice in it. This was my first cafe adventure since I started the diet and since all the fruit ingredients (that were shown on the menu) were allowed in Phase 1, I thought it was ok – bad choice. It had sugar and orange juice (instead of orange itself). I think i need to restart the whole cycle now, am I correct?

Thanks. Got my copy of Burn from library today. Plan to read this weekend.
There is a possibility that some stomach acidity may be causing resistance to weight loss. I do get some Ashma like symptoms cough and wheezing due to certain food/spices, but no hear burn.
I am scheduled to see a gastroenterology in next few weeks. She may be able to do acidity test more accurately.
May be ” Burn” will have some insight.

    Thanks again.

Hello, Same here. In week 4, phase II, no changes in last 7 days. I lost 7 ibs in initial 10 days of program and then, it’s not moving. Trying all the strategies listed in the link. changed the food, trying to do different workout. I want to loose another 3/5 pounds. Planning to extend the program another week.

When I was in college, before having kids, I was 135 Ibs, I gained weight and was 153 ibs before the program. Now I am at 145 ibs. i want to bring my weight to 140/142. Is this ok if I don’t get to 140/142?

Should I see if BMI is changing. My previous nutritionist told me that when body becomes healthy, water content at cellular level increases. that adds to the weight. Any comments? Should I give up this quest to loose additional weight. I feel very healthy and in shape.

    Appreciate experts’s advice.

Hi PlanetB! First things first, the community would like to congratulate you for a job well done! We’re glad that you completed your fast metabolism diet journey and now you’re feeling healthy and energetic than before! You can now enter the fast metabolism diet maintenance and decide what you want to do afterwards.

With regards to your question, yes it is very possible that the water content might be the one hindering your problem in losing weight (this topic is scheduled to be published in our blog post). You can have lab tests to know what’s causing your weight to stall. Alternatively, if you do believe that your weight stall is caused by specific condition like inflammation, digestive problems or hormonal imbalance, you can try The Burn.

Regarding the last remaining pounds you want to get rid off, try to read the articles below and this might help you in deciding whether to keep that weight or not 🙂
